Now that funding is in place to renovate the Rubey Park bus depot in downtown Aspen, a public outreach effort is starting. The City will warn people about construction.
The $9.3 million renovation project will modernize Rubey Park and fix things like cracking concrete and cramped bus parking. The construction project will renovate the interior of the existing clock tower building and add two buildings to either side of it. Parking for buses will change too.
Construction is scheduled to start next month and even though bus ridership will continue, traffic on East Durant Avenue may be impacted. City Transportation Director John Krueger says his department will work to educate the public.
"We’ll be focused on getting all the information out to all the bus riders and anybody else who’s concerned during the construction process. We understand it’s going to take really good and constant communication to keep everybody informed."
The biggest impacts from construction will happen in the shoulder seasons. Krueger hopes construction is complete by spring of 2016.
