An exciting double bill of two new operas will be presented tonight at 7 at the Wheeler Opera House by the Aspen Opera Theater Center conducted by Robert Spano and directed by Ed Berkeley. Christopher Theofanidis’s (Thee-oh-FAN-uh-diz’s) The Cows of Apollo, or The Invention of Music is a masque suggested by a work of Sophocles. The Classical Style by Steven Stucky with libretto by Jeremy Denk is an opera buffa in which Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven return to earth for an encounter with musicologist Charles Rosen, author of The Classical Style.
