LIFT-UP celebrates its 35th birthday with balloons, hot air balloons

LIFT-UP

To celebrate 35 years of service, the local non-profit LIFT-UP is throwing a three-day festival and fundraiser, complete with hot air balloons.

LIFT-UP is a non-profit that provides food and other services to needy people anywhere from Aspen to De Beque. They’re hoping to expand their facilities, hence the fundraiser.

Its 35th birthday party starts in Willits in Basalt at 6 p.m. Early Saturday morning, 15 hot air balloons are expected to take off from Crown Mountain Park in El Jebel. Pilots from across Colorado and the southwest are coming to participate.

LIFT-UP has partnered with Above It All Balloon Company out of Snowmass. The balloon company has always wanted to host a festival in the mid-valley.

This is the inaugural event; the nonprofit's leadership has indicated this is the first of what it hopes will become an annual event.
