New Parking Rules In Effect At Sardy Field

New regulations passed this month by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will change up parking at Aspen-Pitkin County Airport.

The new TSA rules outlaw unattended vehicles near airport buildings, so people picking up or dropping off flyers at Sardy won’t be able to leave their cars where they were previously allowed, in the diagonal curbside parking spots.

The new rules were put in place to minimize the threat of car bombs. The changes were made at the federal level and went into effect Dec. 6; some larger commercial airports around the country have already been using this standard.

ASE Airport security has been handing out parking alert cards this month to remind people of the new security measures and began towing non-compliant vehicles yesterday. To accommodate the changes, parking will now be free in the lots for the first hour at the airport.
