Conservation organizations are teaming up to discuss threats to local public lands Thursday night.

Non-profits Colorado Wild and Public Lands the Access Fund are hosting a public discussion about national policy and local advocacy. They’ll also discuss the impact of the federal government shutdown on local parks.

Over 90 percent of Pitkin County is public land. Anne Rickenbaugh is a board member with Colorado Wild and Public Lands. She says there lots of policy changes in the works on the national level, and that they will be explaining those policies at the event Thursday.

"The policy and legislative Initiatives that are going around Washington DC, and how they could impact, for better or for worse, our public lands management", said Rickenbaugh.

The discussion takes place at the Mountain Chalet in Aspen at 5:30 p.m.
