An old Pitkin County ordinance prohibits dogs running around off-leash. On Wednesday, county commissioners will change that.
The public told the county they wanted an area near the river in Jaffee Park to let their dogs run free.
When Pitkin County Open Space and Trails tried to OK the change, they realized it was illegal.
Wednesday's proposed updates amend that to allow dogs off-leash, but under their owner’s control in specific areas.
Dogs have been allowed off-leash at Smuggler Mountain since 2008, as well as on the Arbaney Kittle Trail, which is on federal land.
