Carbondale’s Board of Trustees are discussing an array of options to keep bears out of trash cans.
Last year was a bad year for bears getting into trash in Carbondale. Jay Harrington, the town manager, says instead of one or two problem bears, the town had around a dozen.
In a work session this week, trustees discussed if people should be required to keep their trash in bear-proof containers. If so, who should pay for it: Residents, or waste management services?
The town is working with a consultant on updating their waste hauling system.
