The first inaugural 4th of July Western Sky Balloon Festival held in Delta, Colorado over the long holiday weekend brought joy to thousands of spectators. The four day event was hosted by the City of Delta and financed by numerous local sponsors. The city contracted with Balloon Meister Doug Lenberg from New Mexico to bring twelve balloons to Confluence Park. The event also featured a local balloon from Cedaredge bringing to total to thirteen.

Following a decision last November by the town of Paonia to not allow Pride Flags to be displayed on its light poles along Grand Avenue, numerous volunteers from The Learning Council stepped up with the Color the Town With Us Campaign.

Last year, the town of Paonia approved the flying of Rainbow Flags on Grand Avenue in commemoration of Pride Month. The flags flew un-interrupted until June 14th when they were replaced with the American flag for Flag Day. The next day the Pride Flags returned and so did the complaint from those who found the banners offensive. The flags are not allowed to fly on Grand Avenue this year, however, The Learning Council's "Color the Town" campaign is taking the celebration to local businesses and residents.
