In the 1980's, an increasing number of immigrants - predominantly from Mexico and Central America - became a vital part of the Roaring Fork Valley. Some of these new immigrants struggled to learn English and in some cases, cultural divides developed.
Lucina Salcedo started as a student with English in Action in 2009. Today, she continues as a participant in the program and tutors other native Spanish speakers who are beginning to learn English. She discusses the challenges facing non-English speaking residents in the community, her relationship with her tutor, and what inspires her to continue improving her English.
