The Pitkin County Board of Health got a primer on opioid use Tuesday. The nationwide health crisis has not left the valley untouched.
Kim Levin is an emergency room doctor at Aspen Valley Hospital. As she told the Board of Health, she has first-hand experience with overdoses associated with prescription drug abuse.
“It is happening here. I’ve seen it in the ER. I’ve seen people come in dead,” said Levin. “The numbers aren't as high as Denver, but we certainly have a problem locally.”
The board agreed to work on letters of support regarding addiction services bills that will appear in the Colorado state house this session.
