Week In The Arts: Sept. 10 - 16

Welcome to the beginning of another week in the Roaring Fork Valley! This is Week in the Arts, a curated list of upcoming exhibitions and events.

Tuesday, Japanese woodcutting artist Hiroki Morinoue and ceramicist Mark Pharis present a guest faculty lecture at Anderson Ranch.  The event starts at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, "Sound City" will be screened at the Basalt Library for Documentary Night. The film explores the story behind the legendary but mysterious recording studio in California.  The documentary begins at 5 p.m.

Thursday, two new shows open at the R2 Gallery in The Launchpad in Carbondale. Mary Conover’s paintings will be on display alongside the wire sculptures of Vicki Lee Johnston and Jim Johnson. The opening is from 6 to 8 p.m.

The exhibition “Beyond the Square” opens at the Red Brick on Friday.  The show highlights the work of Roaring Fork Valley artists who explore the boundaries of their artistic mediums. The opening reception starts at 5 p.m.

Also Friday, the Wheeler Opera House’s fall season kicks off with the U.S. debut of The Women’s Adventure Film Tour, which includes short films about women pushing boundaries in outdoor sports.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, Glenwood Springs celebrates the 125th birthday of The Hotel Colorado and the Yampah Spa and Vapor Caves with activities, history, art, food and music. The event starts at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the community space under the bridge on 7th St.

Sunday, New Orleans-based musician Jon Cleary plays the Belly Up. Doors open at 6 p.m.
