Basalt Town Council has voted unanimously to give elected officials a pay raise. The change goes into effect this spring, for about half of the board.
Whoever’s chosen by voters in the April 5th election will be the first to see higher wages. Newly sworn in council members will be paid $12,500 a year instead of $9,600. The mayor, whether it’s incumbent Jacque Whitsitt or challenger Rick Stevens, will make $18,750 annually, instead of $14,400.
The remaining three members of Town Council won’t see a pay raise. Those positions will bump up in salary in two years, after the next round of elections.
Council also chose United Companies to build the long-awaited underpass. Construction is expected to begin mid-May.
