Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper is joining forces with an organization started by Aspen Mayor Steve Skadron.
Skadron and City of Aspen officials founded the Compact of Colorado Communities in May; it’s an organization of communities across the state that have agreed to take aggressive action on climate change. Hickenlooper announced yesterday that he will work with the compact to present a symposium early next year.
It supports an executive order that Hickenlooper issued this summer saying Colorado needs to be prepared for climate change impacts and which commits the state to developing more clean energy. Both Hickenlooper and the Compact of Colorado Communities want to make a statement that Colorado is a leader on climate change and sustainability.
The symposium in late January will include business leaders and sustainability experts.
