U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera speaks tonight (Tuesday) at Paepcke Auditorium as the first speaker in a high-profile lineup.
Herrera is the first Latino to hold the position. In an interview with Aspen Public Radio, he said coming to Aspen was a bit of a homecoming. Herrera’s father came to Denver when he first moved to the United States.
The series also brings Alison Bechdel and Beth Malone together, later this month. Bechdel is the author of graphic novel, ‘Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic’. Malone performed in the musical adaptation of the story that premiered last year.
The rest of the lineup includes Adam Johnson, Tony Horwitz, Geraldine Brooks and Sandra Cisneros.
