Tipton, Caloia get Republican challengers

reagangirl.com

Congressman Scott Tipton will face a challenger from his own party before the fall election. That's one of the local results after Republicans gathered in Colorado Springs this past weekend.

Tipton represents the 3rd Congressional District and will battle it out with Carbondale resident and fellow Republican Alex Beinstein in the summer primary. Beinstein landed a spot on the June ballot after rallying more than enough support from the GOP during the state convention.

Tipton has represented the expansive third congressional district since 2011. Democrat and former state senator Gail Schwartz is also running for that post, along with a veterinarian from Eagle County.

Republicans chose former deputy District Attorney Jeff Cheney to run against incumbent District Attorney Sherry Caloia.

Pitkin has one delegate going to the Republican national convention in July; one of thirty-four Colorado delegates supporting presidential candidate Ted Cruz.
