In an unprecedented year of divisiveness and rancor across the nation and in our community, Aspen Public Radio was proud to host a series of debates on local issues with the candidates and representatives from important local races. APR is the place on your dial and on your device to find intelligent and reasoned discussion.

GarCo's unofficial results officially in

The Garfield County election results are in — and while they’re unofficial, the numbers from Tuesday night stay the same.

About 27,000 of the 32,000 “active” Garfield County voters participated in this election. Jean Alberico, the Garfield County Clerk and Recorder, said her team needed to keep counting ballots Wednesday. About 6,000 ballots were dropped off on election day, which was a lot, she said. There were also long lines at the polls in Rifle and Parachute.

Garfield County counts its voter participation differently than the Secretary of State does. According to the Garfield system, which considers “active” voters as opposed to “eligible” ones, the local government says 84 percent of voters showed up to the polls in this election. That’s less than the 2012 election when 94 percent of voters voted.
