In A Tight Race, Donovan Wins Colorado Senate District 5

Kerry Donovan Campaign

Democrat Kerry Donovan is outlining what issues she’d like to take to Denver now that she’s been elected to the State Senate District Five seat. Donovan barely beat her competitor in a race that was closely watched statewide. She spoke with Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen.

The race for Colorado Senate District Five came down to the wire as election officials continued to count ballots the day after election day. At one point, Republican candidate Don Suppes incorrectly told supporters on Facebook he had won. In the end, Democrat Kerry Donovan pulled ahead and announced her victory Wednesday night. She thanked voters on Thursday.

"I’m just humbled and honored to have been elected by the people of SD5 and I’m fully committed to be their voice down at the capitol and work hard for their issues."

Her issues include improving the economy in the district, which spreads across seven counties and includes Pitkin and Eagle. Protection for land and water and building a cohesive Western Slope voice are also priorities, she says. She fills the seat left vacant by Snowmass Village democrat Gail Schwartz.
