Snowmass Village Town Council is considering how detailed it should be in requiring changes at Krabloonik Fine Dining and Dogsledding. At a meeting Monday night, Council heard from the new owners and advocates about how to prevent animal cruelty charges from happening again. Those were leveled against the previous owner.
Krabloonik resides on town property, so Council must approve the lease again now that there are new owners. Danny and Gina Philips have taken extensive measures to improve conditions for the two hundred dogs, and worked with town staff and the previous owner in modifying the lease to ensure best practices in handling the dogs.
During public comments, animal advocates praised changes so far, but urged Council to specifically restrict how long dogs are tethered. They consider it cruel and antiquated, citing input from some state and national dog experts. Those speaking included Leigh Vogel, of Voices for the Krabloonik Dogs. The new owners say it's safer for sled dogs to be tethered with regular interaction with people, other dogs and veterinarian approved exercise. Snowmass Town Council will continue reviewing the proposed changes to the lease.
