Fans waited outside of the Benedict Music tent on Friday for an extra half an hour after production issues delayed the start of the Jazz Aspen Snowmass June Experience.
Jim Horowitz, founder of Jazz Aspen says the delays weren’t anything to worry about.
“Other than making some people stand outside a little bit longer waiting to get in than we intended, there was no damage done,” Horowitz said.
Though no official attendance numbers are currently available, Horowitz estimates that three quarters of available tickets were sold for Friday’s show, while Chicago sold out the 2000-seat venue on Saturday. Attendance for Sunday was not available yesterday afternoon.
These numbers are similar to last year’s attendance, when nearly all available tickets were sold.
The lawn experience continues to be popular. It appeared that just as many people were inside the tent as outside. It was also the first time a concert has had a scheduled early start time in seven years. The first act was scheduled to start at five p.m..
“A lot of the people who had tickets for the show stayed outside of the tent on Friday night during the Count Basie/Sinatra segment because it was so warm and so beautiful and they could hear so well.”
The J.A.S. series continues this summer with performances at the Little Nell and the larger Labor Day event this fall.
