The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in a statement released Wednesday, said an old mine outside Minturn, a superfund site, could become the site of a future housing development.
The EPA and other agencies are working with a developer to clean up the old mine, which is on the Eagle River, adjacent to the White River National Forest. It was listed as a superfund site in 1986 because of heavy metals in the water and soil.
The press release listed dozens of current and former superfund sites with the most economic potential. It also stated the agency’s new head, Scott Pruitt, is “renewing focus” on superfund sites around the nation.
