City Hall could go to a vote after all
On Tuesday the Aspen City Council decided to extend a contract with developer Mark Hunt to buy two buildings near city hall.
By extending the contract, the city also agreed to place a question to the voters, asking if city offices should move into the Hunt property or be built on Rio Grand Plaza.
Alycin Bektesh reports on the continued Aspen City Council meeting declaring a ballot issue for city hall offices.
The original project to build the Rio Grande offices has been held up in court, but the litigants would agree to drop all lawsuits against the development as long as the choice is put to voters. The council has scheduled a special meeting for Sept. 4 to discuss the specific ballot language. Last night they also approved two additional ballot questions for this fall’s election.
