Snowmass ski resort opens Thursday and the new Base Village is banking on free attractions to pull families in this winter.
The new Snowmass Base Village is a $600 million project, set to open on Dec. 15. While it includes luxury amenities like an exclusive ski club, yoga studio and residences, the centerpiece is a pedestrian mall and community center.
The community center is a multipurpose building with dining, a flexible event space, a new Mastadon Discovery Area and kids’ game room.
An ice-skating rink sits between the community center and new Limelight hotel. For its first year, the rink will offer free skating and skate rentals and s’mores, costing an estimated $200,000 paid for by the Snowmass Base Village Master’s Association.
This is a group of property owners in Snowmass Base Village formed to promote the area as a year-round family destination.
The Limelight hotel is offering a five-story climbing wall for village visitors. The wall’s topography is based on popular outdoor climbing routes from around the Roaring Fork Valley.
The climbing wall and limelight hotel open Dec. 14, one day ahead of Snowmass Base Village.
