Regional Roadmap Aims To Boost Solar Energy

CLEER

On Thursday, big energy consumers in the Roaring Fork Valley, like the Aspen Skiing Company, meet in Glenwood Springs with governments and energy providers to discuss how to boost solar energy production

The meeting is a brainstorming session to find ways governments and businesses in Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle Counties can produce and consume more solar energy.

Governments, for example, can contribute land for solar farms; businesses can pay for the solar panels, and utilities can agree to buy the energy.

Katharine Rushton, the Renewable Energy Program Director for CLEER, one of the organizations hosting the event, says there is an economic opportunity to advancing clean-energy production.

"We want to make sure that our region doesn’t miss out," she said.

Colorado aims to become carbon-neutral by 2040.
