Eagle County says its administration buildings are now powered by renewable energy.
Last week, the county commissioners signed a resolution, which, among other things, opted into Holy Cross Energy’s Renewable Energy Purchase Program (REPP).
Eagle County says it’s shrunk its carbon footprint, considerably.
The county will pay a little extra on electric bills to Holy Cross Energy. The utility will invest that in renewable energy projects, like solar arrays and wind farms.
Adam Palmer, the county’s sustainable communities director, says the program helps expand access to clean energy throughout the region.
"These are actual renewables that are feeding our energy supply mix," said Palmer.
Holy Cross currently gets around 40 percent of its energy from renewables. Eagle County is helping the utility grow that percentage and will get to say it has a clean energy supply.
Other members of Holy Cross Energy’s REPP program include Snowmass Village, Basalt and Carbondale.
