Aspen Poised To Reconsider Drought Status

Marci Krivonen

As far as drought is concerned, Aspen is feeling some relief after the wet winter.

At Monday's City Council meeting, the Aspen Drought Task Force will discuss changing the area’s drought status.

They’ll consider state recommendations, as well as local snowpack, soil moisture and stream flows.

The task force is saying conditions are "abnormally dry," which is much better than this time last year, when they were "critically dry."

According to the city’s utility department, a change in drought status would likely lift stage two water restrictions, which were put in place for the first time last summer to limit sprinkler use.

That decision would be made within the next month.
