The application for Wilderness Workshop’s 2019 Artist in Wilderness program is now open. Artists spend a week in the wilderness surrounding Aspen for the residency.
Wilderness Workshop board member Mary Dominick-Coomer started the program 11 years ago to honor Dottie Fox, a watercolor artist and co-founder of the organization.
Each summer is focused on a different media; this year, for the first time, Dominick-Coomer explains, the residency is for abstract photographers.
"It's their impression, in form, color and space, of the texture, the feeling, the imagery of wilderness," she said.
Dominick-Coomer says in the residency’s first year, eight artists applied, all from Colorado. As the program has grown, artists have come from overseas, and even from the Yukon.
A link to the application can be found on the Wilderness Workshop website. The submission deadline is March 15.
