Aspen Art Museum Concludes Fellowship With Virtual Art Presentations

Project presentations for the conclusion of Aspen Art Museum’s Artist Fellowship will be held virtually on Thursday, with the program's four artist fellows presenting their work online.

This year's fellows — Curt Carpenter, Marilyn Lowey, Lauren Peterson, and Teal Roberts Wilson — were chosen from a pool of artists located within 100 miles of Aspen. Three of this year's selected artists — Lowey, Carpenter and Roberts Wilson — are based in the Roaring Fork Valley.

The program ran for nine months, and the fellows spent the last two months of the fellowship working on their final projects throughout the stay-at-home order. Last year's inagural fellowship exhibitions were held at the Aspen Art Museum's downtown location, which has changed due to social distancing guidelines. Despite having to go virtual for the program's final exhibitions, it has added a new dimension to the artists' work.

“These fellows are really nimble and everyone rose to the occasion," said Aspen Art Museum's artist programs coordinator Teresa Booth Brown. "This was a real training exercise in learning how to relate the information they wanted to share through an online format and learning how to give better presenations.”

A question and answer session will follow the project presentations. The event will be streamed on the Aspen Art Museum’s website at 5 p.m.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of the story reported that two of the fellows are based in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Kirsten was born and raised in Massachusetts, and has called Colorado home since 2008. She moved to Vail the day after graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2011. Before relocating to Basalt in 2020, she also spent a year living in one of Aspen’s sister cities, Queenstown, New Zealand.
