1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture
The Ute Theatre in Rifle is hosting a screening of the documentary “1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture.” It follows biblical scholars as they look at a 1946 translation of the bible that led to anti-LGBTQ movements among Christians in the US. The pastor from the Roaring Fork Methodist Church will talk about the impacts of the documentary on the local community before the film. Nonprofits will also have informational tables about resources for the LGBTQ community in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys. Protect our Garfield County Libraries and Pro Colorado Education will also discuss how censorship efforts like book bans target the LGBTQ community, and people will be able to get registered to vote, if they haven’t yet. The event is free and open to the public, limited by the number of seats in the Ute Theatre. Doors open at 6 pm.
