Earlier this week, Carbondale officials launched a campaign encouraging residents to wear face coverings in public due to COVID-19.
As part of the “Mask On, Carbondale” initiative, residents can expect to see Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head posters reminding them to wear masks around town. The town's Emergency Task Force tapped local artist and Carbondale Arts gallery manager Brian Colley to do the illustration, which was designed in collaboration with town officials and Carbondale’s creative district.
"It's kind of hard to make something inspiring and get people's attention during this time," said Colley. "Carbondale was such a potato-centric town back in the day, and I thought it could be relevant to unite Carbondale in that way."
The posters are printed in English and Spanish, and will be available for business owners to hang in restaurants and shops while social distancing protocols are still in place. Carbondale's Board of Trustees was supposed to vote on a mandatory mask order on Tuesday, May 12, but that meeting has been postponed until Tuesday, May 19.
