The Rifle library was chosen as one of eight libraries statewide to participate in a pilot backpack check-out program.

Branch Manager Janine Rose says Rifle is ideally suited to be a part of the “Check-Out Colorado State Park Program,” which rolls out this week.

“We are poised at the edge of two really popular state parks, so I got all excited" she said. "I thought we would be a perfect pilot location to test these backpacks out.”

The backpacks contain hiking guides, binoculars, and even a bug collecting kit. And, they come with a golden ticket - a pass to every one of Colorado’s State parks.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife Director Bob Broscheid announced the program as a way to allow young, underserved Coloradans develop connections with the natural environment. Residents and nonresidents can check out the backpacks just like a library book, for up to one week at a time.
