Glenwood Springs' 27th St. Bridge Is Open... But Not Finished

The 27th Street Bridge in Glenwood reopened last week, but the replacement project is taking longer than expected because of weather and missed deadlines from the construction company.

Road construction is expected to be completed in the next couple of months, with paint and landscaping scheduled for the summer.

Terri Partch, the city's engineer, says the contracting company they hired, Ralph L. Wadsworth, didn’t meet the December 5 deadline for completing the bridge, so now the city is negotiating a new deadline.

“Our revised finish date will remain December 5th until all of the negotiations take place and those days are officially added," Partch said.

She said the construction has caused detours and delays for commuters, but the bridge replacement was necessary for safety.

“Certainly now, the bridge won’t be in danger of falling in the water," Partch said.

After negotiating an extented deadline with the construction company, the city will release the new timeline.
