Brahimi suggests establishing an interim government of non-partisan Iraqis to handle the day-to-day affairs until elections next year. The envoy says Iraqis should select the interim leaders with the help of the U.N. NPR's Vicky O'Hara reports.

A senior U.N. envoy wraps up a week of talks with Iraqi leaders with an apparent consensus on the need for elections later this year to choose members of a transitional national assembly. U.N. Expands Debate on Iraq Beyond Security Council
During a two-day open debate, countries without seats on the 15-member U.N. Security Council speak out against a possible war with Iraq.
