Planning commissioners for Snowmass Village are getting closer to making recommendations about Base Village. Developers are asking for changes to the project. Commissioners so far are generally in favor of the changes, which include adding a new Limelight Hotel. But they’re concerned about several issues, including what’s called the community purpose replacements. Those are public facilities in exchange for exceptions already granted, like bigger and taller new buildings.
“City planners and decision makers—they’re capitalists too, and they want to make sure we’re getting the best thing for the community,” says Jim Wahlstrom. He’s a Senior Planner with Snowmass Village.
Developers want to shrink and move an aquatic center, creating a domino effect on where put in another, different public facility. Commissioners hope to wrap up Wednesday, March 11th. The project then goes to Snowmass Town Council. Base Village is about a third done now. Building on the next phase will likely start in 2016.
