There is no formal opposition so far to Referendum 1, which would change Aspen’s City Charter. Aspen Public Radio is hosting a moderated forum tomorrow night on the referendum, featuring proponents and opponents of the measure. The town hall starts at 5:30 at the Belly Up and is free and open to the public. It will be broadcast live and online, at aspenpublicradio.org.
The referendum is on the spring ballot. Those are sent out April 13th. If approved by voters, the referendum would create a Charter amendment to add another requirement, before certain kinds of development can be built. It would mostly apply to projects bigger than what the city’s land use code allows,or if a developer wants exceptions to affordable housing or parking requirements. Any of those would require a public vote before the developer could move forward.
