This is the first contested race for the board of directors at the hospital in six years. Aspen Valley Hospital (AVH) canceled two previous ones because no one applied, except the incumbents. For this election, there are seven candidates running for two open seats.The candidates all answered a series of questions posed by Aspen Public Radio. Here are their responses.Ballots must be returned to AVH's administration office by 7 p.m. on May 3. They can be mailed or dropped off in person.

Welcome to Valley Roundup, a review of the top news stories in the Roaring Fork Valley in the past week. 

The City of Aspen municipal election made history this week, with voters stripping some power away from their elected officials. And, two candidates vying for an open council seat are headed to a runoff election in June.

A prominent downtown Aspen landlord is eyeing more properties and has two more under contract to buy.

Meanwhile, the Aspen Skiing Co. has acknowledged that it needs to replace the old lift 1A with a new high-speed chairlift to accommodate World Cup finals in 2017.

How much growth can this valley handle?

And, the feds are looking to Lance Armstrong’s girlfriend to testify about about his honesty based on two events that occurred in Aspen.
