Glenwood considers Airbnb rules, taxes

Glenwood Springs is looking at charging locals who rent out their homes with Airbnb. City officials are considering requiring a business license and a permit, which adds up to more than $150.

“We want to make sure that, one, we know where these facilities are, and two, they’re paying the taxes they’re obligated to pay,” says Community Development Director Andrew McGregor. “And three, most importantly to me, is that people are in a safe and appropriate situation. They couldn’t be in a closet or a basement with no windows or doors.”

Landlords would be required to pay more than 6% in local taxes. Officials plan to make a final decision at a later date.
