Public can weigh in on airport development

Aspen Pitkin County Airport Director John Kinney is meeting with the public in a series of coffee chats to talk about the facility’s development plans.

One thing Airport Director John Kinney is sure of is nothing's for-sure. His semi-weekly meetings with the public have already raised concerns about Owl Creek Road, air traffic noise over neighborhoods, and conflicting ideas about parking.

A small-plane pilot, a commercial flights agent, and a “concerned citizen” were at the table with coffee, muffins and Kinney. Spread out before them were color coded maps showing the proposed phases of the airport development plans. Things like improving the terminal within the next five years, widening the runway over the next ten, and some tweeks to Owl Creek Road within the next 20.
