Stay Aspen Snowmass study released

Every three years Stay Aspen Snowmass does a count of available lodging for stays under 30 days.

Bill Tomcich, president of Stay Aspen Snowmass, says some hotels have closed since the mid 90’s, and there is a significant number of rental rooms lost to “conversion” - condominiums being used for long-term rentals or owner-occupied instead.

However, what is on the rise is homeowners renting out rooms through sites like Airbnb, HomeAway and VRBO.

“This is the first year we’ve actually tried to quantify what that is," said Tomcich, "and it’s approximately 720 units between Aspen and Snowmass together, which is fairly significant.”
