Rubey Park misses opening weekend

Starting today passengers will be able to line up in front of the new building that includes a heated waiting room and upgraded bathrooms — they just won’t be able to go inside.

“We are very close, but not today, ” said John Krueger, City of Aspen Transportation Director.

Krueger says weather and the enormity of the project have caused some delays for the final touches of the Rubey Park overhaul. He says the facility will be open for use by mid-December. Landscaping and other secondary improvements will be completed by June.

A fence that sits on Durant Avenue will be moved back toward the construction site, allowing riders to wait on the curb next to the new signs showing each bus route. Several buses will still queue up in front of Wagner Park and ticketing will continue to run out of the trailer on Mill Street mall until the project is completed.
