Downtown Aspen penthouse breaks record for most expensive

lbaspen.com

A downtown Aspen penthouse that sold last month fetched a record breaking $25 million. Aspen Public Radio’s Carolyn Sackariason reports.

The penthouse is perched atop a new building on Hyman Avenue. It’s not only the most expensive condo sold downtown, its price per square foot set a record. It pencils out to just under $3,000 for each square foot.

Andrew Ernemann represented the buyer. He explains the family realizes how unique the property is. That’s why they bought it unfinished. Another 3 to 4 million will be needed to build it out.

“Over 8,000 square feet of livable space, most of which is one level, a roof deck that has a pool and two spas with truly incredible 360-degree views of downtown Aspen, Independence Pass, Aspen Mountain, Mount Sopris, back up the Hunter Creek Valley and you say ‘where else can I find this?’ I don’t think you can," he says.

City Council gave concessions, like additional square feet, to the developers, father and son Andy and Nikos Hecht. The move was an effort to save longtime local haunt Little Annie’s next door, also owned by the Hechts.
