Two seats up on AVH board this spring

Anyone interested in running for a seat on the Aspen Valley Hospital board of directors has just under two weeks to throw their hat into the ring. Carolyn Sackariason has the details.

Two seats are up this year on the board, which hasn’t seen a contested race since 2008. That might be a result of Aspen Valley Hospital doing too little to publicize elections.

In 2014, when three seats were open, the hospital had to cancel the vote because no one applied, except for the incumbents. AVH ran the minimum number of public notices that year. This year administrators are handling it differently. Ginny Dyche is director of communications.

“The hospital received feedback that there wasn’t enough communication and outreach.  As a result, for this year’s election, we are going above and beyond, both with a press release and some print ads.”

This election may draw interest now that two top administrators have resigned — Dan Bonk, the CEO, and AVH’s chief clinical officer and general counsel, Elaine Gerson. Anyone wishing to run must contact the hospital’s election office by Feb. 26.
