Hotel Colorado to close in January for overhaul

Flickr user, Li Tsin Soon

The Hotel Colorado is one of the oldest hotels in the state. Ownership is about to change for the first time in three decades.

At the end of January, the hotel will temporarily close so its new owners can begin the transformation. Glenwood Hot Springs will buy it from the current owners, Glenwood Properties, LLC. The sellers are a Kansas-based company that paid $1.3 million for the hotel in 1989.

Kgell Mitchell is the president and CEO of Glenwood Hot Springs. The hotel is a “wonderful, old building,” he says, and it makes sense for the two to be joined, from a resort standpoint.

When the hot springs and pool, and the hotel, were built in the late 19th century, they were joined, but were later sold off individually.
