Aspen Council blocks Marolt option

Last week, Aspen officials put a stop to a proposed entrance to Aspen plan.

The elected officials of Pitkin County, Snowmass Village and the City of Aspen meet quarterly to talk transportation. They were briefed by consultant Ralph Trapani, who told them that the best option for the entrance to Aspen is a route from the roundabout, through Marolt Open Space and then onto Main Street.

Aspen voters would have to approve the Marolt route, and while Pitkin and Snowmass officials were open to exploring that, the five Aspen City Council members said going through the open space is a non-starter. Instead, the group agreed to spend their efforts looking into an electric bus fleet. Aspen Mayor Steve Skadron said he will be announcing his own mobility solutions near the end of this month.
