Maroon Bells death ruled an accident

A man attempting to hike the Maroon Bells Grand Couloir died of hypothermia according to a coroner's report.

Over Memorial Day weekend a hiker heading up to Crater Lake called in a report that a man’s body was lying in the snow off the trail.

Mountain Rescue Aspen deployed a team, who declared the man dead on the scene. Pitkin County sheriff investigators were sent to the area and identified the man as 27-year-old Jeffrey Bushroe of Tuscon Arizona.

On Thursday, Deputy Coroner Eric Hansen released a statement saying Bushrow sustained a head injury that would have resulted in confusion, and that he ultimately died of hypothermia. The Grand Couloir is a chute located between north and south Maroon peaks.
