Search to continue for missing climber

Mountain Rescue Aspen volunteers will resume their search for a climber who went missing last September.

New Mexico resident David Cook was last seen Sept. 20 near Maroon Lake. He’s believed to have climbed either the Maroon Bells or Pyramid Peak.

Crews searched on the ground and from the air last fall, and again on July 6 but found no sign of Cook.

Jeff Edelson is the president of Mountain Rescue Aspen, a nonprofit that works with the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office. He said both agencies are committed to Cook’s recovery

“The sheriff met with the family after last year, and I think he committed to the family that we would go out and do what we could safely to try and bring closure. We don’t like to leave anybody out there, type of thing.”

Crews will utilize dogs in the next effort, and expect to reach places previously unaccessible due to snow cover.
