More bridge projects in Glenwood?

Elise Thatcher

As the Grand Avenue Bridge project nears its halfway point, Glenwood Springs is thinking about other bridges to build or repair.

The city has a wishlist of infrastructure projects, which has been updated recently. At its meeting Thursday night, the council will decide if it wants to sign on to the new plan.

First up on the new list is the 8th St. extension, which is the little bridge that crosses the Roaring Fork River downtown, west of City Hall. There’s a temporary extension there now; a permanent one is estimated to cost $1.7 million.

Next up is a South Bridge, which would provide another place for people on the west side of the Roaring Fork River to easily access Highway 82. Advocates say it would improve emergency service access.

Number three on the list is to replace the bridge you cross if you’re heading up to the Sunlight Ski area.
