Colorado’s obesity rate is nation’s lowest, but still rising

United Health Foundation

Colorado is the country’s seventh healthiest state, according to United Health Foundation. The state’s rates of obesity and diabetes are the nation’s lowest.

There is room for improvement, however. Whooping cough is a persistent challenge here and, according to United Health Foundation, so is excessive drinking.

Garfield County was recently named Colorado’s healthiest community. It received Governor Hickenlooper’s first-ever Healthy Community award for initiatives like a mobile school lunch program and an effort on the part of the county to train bilingual public health workers.
