Garfield County is working to drum up support for a new natural gas facility on the Western Slope.

The commissioners are backing Xcel Energy’s proposal to build a facility that, if approved, would generate 700 megawatts of electricity.

The county is partnering with Mesa County to form the Piceance Power Collaborative to support this effort, citing the potential economic boon to the area.
