Alpine Bank has awarded scholarships to 13 graduating high school seniors, headed to Colorado Mountain College in the fall.
Since 1996, Alpine Bank has awarded more than 200 scholarships to Latino and Hispanic students in Colorado Mountain College’s district. It includes Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle Counties. The program began when the bank’s chairman Bob Young noticed a lack of Hispanic and Latino students planning to pursue higher education.
In 2017, their graduation rates in the Roaring Fork School District were 11 percent below white students, but still above the state average.
To be considered for these specialized awards, students must classify as an in-district CMC student, have at least a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Each scholarship equals $2,200 a year.
