Snowmass Discusses Extending Marijuana Ban

http://kotaku.com

Snowmass Town Council is extending its moratorium on retail marijuana. At Tuesday’s work session, Mayor Markey Butler expressed hesitancy about allowing pot to be sold within town limits without definite regulations in place.

The moratorium was enacted when recreational marijuana became legal in Colorado and has been extended since then. With only one full council meeting left before it’s slated to expire on Oct. 31, Butler hopes to draw out the ban another six months.

Discussion of proposed regulations included whether or not to include school bus stops in “Youth Restriction Zones,” and if shops should be 300 or 500 feet apart. A buffer may also restrict marijuana shops from locating near Base Village and the ice skating rink.

The council did not state an exact end date set for the extended moratorium, but a vote by the council could lift it at any time. More will be decided on Monday.

A marijuana ballot question is still in place for this fall, which asks Snowmass voters if they want to levy a tax on marijuana sales.
